The Leizu Series

This series is a tribute to the Empress Leizu, wife of the Yellow Emperor. In the 27th century BC she discovered the hidden magic of the silkworm and its thread, developing techniques to bring the delicate beauty and strength of silk to the world. Wire, like silk thread, has a magic of its own. I, too, have developed techniques that harness its inherent strength and showcases its beauty. Through experimentation I've uncovered its attributes and potential; learning how much it bends before it breaks; how bending creates pattern; how pattern can become surface; and how surface can create form and function. This process retains the strength of the wire and the delicacy of its lace like texture.
