This collection reflects the power and sophistication of the arts of the Benin Empire of West Africa, presently a southern portion of Lagos State in Nigeria. From the 12 architecture, and exquisite carvings in wood and ivory, and copper works, and some of the worlds most famous and intricate bronze figurative sculptures, walls and doors. All of the jewelry in this collection are made in bronze and reflect the strength of the culture prior to its complete destruction by the British for their rubber resources they would not trade.
